mitosis

Cards (4)

  • context of mitosis
    • how our bodies grow and heal through making identical cells
    • eg. making new skin cells after a cut
    • undergoes equational division
  • interphase - occurs BEFORE mitosis
    • where cells spend most of their life
    • ie. growing, DNA replication, daily cell functions
    A) mitosis
  • chromosome replication
    • before mitosis, there needs to be double the amount of DNA since there are going to be 2 cells produced from 1, hence requiring 92 chromatids.
    A) proteins
    B) DNA
    C) 92
    D) 46
  • stages of division in mitosis
    • PMAT
    • prophase: nucleus is still there, chromosomes are condensing
    • metaphase: nucleus not there, chromosomes align at centre of cell, spindle fibres attach to centromeres
    • anaphase: centromeres split and sister chromatids are pulled to opposite sides, ensures each daughter cell gets same set of chromosomes
    • telophase: the separated chromatids are on opposite sides of cell, new neuclei have formed on both sides
    • cytokinesis: actual splitting of cell (cytoplasm splits)
    A) condensing
    B) spindles
