  • Only through Research can new inventions and discoveries come into life.
    1. Alexander Graham Bell
    – the inventor of the Telephone.
  • Martin Cooper
    – the inventor of mobile phone or cell phone.
  • RESEARCHERS
    have made ground breaking discoveries and development in the field of health, nutrition, food technology and medicine.
  • Research
    has improved the life expectancy and health conditions of human race in all parts of the world and helped eradicate diseases like polio and smallpox completely.
  • Research
    actually is the basic foundation for a successful endeavour.
  • The purpose of research
    is to provide answers to some questions or problems that are meant to improve the quality of life.
  • Research
    is a process of collecting, analyzing and interpreting information to answer questions.
  • The following are the basic characteristics of a Good Research:
    EMPIRICAL
    LOGICAL
    CYCLICAL
    ANALYTICAL
    CRITICAL
    METHODICAL
  • empirical
    Research is based on direct experience or observation by the researcher.
  • Logical
    Research is based on valid procedures.
  • Cyclical
    Research is cyclical because it starts with a problem and ends with a problem.
  • Analytical
    Research utilizes proven analytical procedures in gathering the data, whether historical, descriptive,experimental or case study.
  • Critical
    Research exhibits careful and precise judgment.
  • Methodical
    Research is conducted in a methodical manner without bias using systematic method and procedures.
  • Replicability
    The research design and procedures are replicated or repeated to enable researcher to arrive at valid and conclusive result.
  • Characteristics of the Researcher
    Intellectual Curiosity
    Prudence
    Healthy Criticism
    Intellectual Honesty
    Intellectual Creativity
  • Intellectual Curiosity
    A researcher undertakes a deep thinking and inquiry of the things and situations around him/her;
  • Prudence
    The researcher is careful to conduct his research study at the right time and at the right place wisely, efficiently, and economically;
  • Health Criticism
    The researcher is always doubtful as to the truthfulness of the results;
  • Intellectual Honesty
    An intelligent researcher is honest to collect or gather data or facts in order to arrive at honest results; and
  • Intellectual Creativity
    A productive and resourceful investigator always creates new researchers
  • The Research Process
    1. Defining the problem2. Defining the hypothesis3. Planning out the study4. Defining variables5. Forming all operational definitions 6. Carrying out the study7. Collecting all data8. Interpreting the data9. Presenting the data10. Drawing the conclusions 11. Communicating the results
  • Ethics
    are the moral principles that govern a person’s behavior (Parveen, 2017).
  • Research ethics
    may be referred to as doing what is morally and legally right in research. They are norms for conduct that distinguish between right and wrong, and acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Ethics are central to the research process. Researchers need to take care of various ethical issues at different levels of this process. The reality is there can be ethical concerns at every step of the research process (Bickman & Rog, 2009).
  • The word research comes from the prefix “re” which means again and the root word “search”
