• lacks experimental realism as pts did not really think they were giving electric shocks because experimenter should be concerned for their welfare ( after replication of study 75% pts did not believe deception when questioned). hence study lacks internal validity
• pts only obeying orders due to demand characteristics. study lacks validity as it only tells us how willing pts are to obey in an experiment. ( pts agreed to give shocks because they thought this is what you do in an experiment)
• high ecological validity. study has been replicated in other countries and similar findings have been found. Hence study is externally valid as same findings have occurred in different settings and by different types of people.
