  • germany's economy was very weak, they defaulted from reparations payments so Belgium and France seized the Ruhr valley, angering politicians who viewed the weimar govt. as weak. The NSDAp grew to 55,000 members so hitler believed he had public support
  • hitler believed stresseman's government would help berlin recover economically, so he had to act before the NSDAP lost support
  • Chancellor Stresseman was cracking down on extremist groups, so hitler had to act before the NSDAP was shut down
  • mussolini had gained power in 1922 in italy and did so by gathering support and storming the capital, hitler believed he could do the same
