• hitler attempted suicide whilst in hiding, he was put on trial for treason and sent to landsberg prison. he was given the minimum sentence (5 years), and only served 9 months
• The SS, SA, and NSDAP were all banned, the nazi party no longer existed
• hitlers judge was sympathetic and allowed Hitler to give long uninterrupted speeches which were reported, making him famous all over germany
• The Nazi party's ban was weakly enforced, and it was up and running by the time hitler was out of jail
• hitler became leader of the NSDAP immediately after being released bc the party's fortunes had decreased while he was in jail, suggesting the party was dysfunctional without him
• Hitler re-evaluated his tactics in prison and aimed to be voted into power, he wrote "Mein Kampf" in prison to outline his ideas and goals, giving the party unity and purpose
