Phloem vessels

Cards (5)

  • Glucose is made in photosynthesis in the leaves
  • Dissolved sugars are then transported to other parts of the plant in phloem vessels. This is called translocation
  • Phloem is composed of tubes of living and elongated cells. Cell sap can move from one phloem cell to the next through pores in the end walls
  • The sugars can be used for respiration (to release energy) or converted to starch in the roots for storage
  • Sugars can be transported up or down the plant
