Ecology

Cards (12)

  • Habitat- the place where an organism lives
  • population-all the organisms of one species living in a habitat
  • community- the population of different species living in a habitat
  • abiotic factor - non living factors of an environment
  • biotic factor- living factors of an environment
  • ecosystem- the interaction of a community with abiotic factors of their environment
  • Producers-are plants and algae that use energy from the sun (photosynthesis) to make their own food
  • Primary consumer- eats producers and is the first link in the food chain
  • Secondary consumers- the consumer that eats the primary consumer.
  • Tertiary-are carnivores that eat secondary consumers
  • Biotic Factors which affect the ecosystem- pathogens, predators, availability of food, new predators of prey, species outcompeting each other.
  • Abiotic factors of the ecosystem- light intensity, temperature, soil pH, mineral content, co2 levels, rainfall, weather, climate, oxygen level, moisture, wind intensity
