(2) Oxidation-reduction reactions

Cards (3)

  • During oxidation-reduction reactions, the electrons are passed along a series of carrier proteins in oxidation-reduction reactions. These electron carriers form a transfer chain in the membranes of the thylakoids.
  • Each electron carrier in the electron-transport chain is at a slightly lower energy level than the previous one, so electrons lose energy at each stage.
  • The energy lost from the electron-transport chain is used to produce ATP from ADP + Pi.
