  • A reoccurrence of the Black Death hit London in 1665 killing around 100,000 - 20% of the population. The rich fled but doctors and priests were most affected as they dealt with the sick.
  • Believed the Great Fire of London sterilised parts of London by burning down cramped houses killing bacteria.
  • The Great Plague had a devastating impact as the cause was unknown and there were no national government responses.
  • During the Great Plague, local Councils quarantined victims and painted a red cross on their door, banned crowded areas e.g. theatres, people had limited contact, mass graves and the execution of cats and dogs.
  • Preventions for the Great Plague were ineffective due to lack of understanding . Poor living conditions, poverty and overcrowding accelerated the Plague.
