  • When an electron in an atom loses energy, it moves from a shell with high energy to a shell with lower energy. It emits light with energy equal to the difference in the energies of the two shells.
  • What are the main problems with the Bohr-Rutherford model?
    • Mathematical assumptions were made to fit the model to the experimental data.
    • Electrons can’t orbit the nucleus without losing energy and collapsing into the centre.
