• LTP - Long Term Potentiation
• LTD - Long Term Depression
• The purpose of LTP is to strengthen neural pathways and memories
• The purpose of LTD is to eliminate unwanted neural pathways and memories
• LTP occurs when there is a repeated activation of the same neural pathway
• LTD occurs when there is repeated low levels of activation of the same neural pathway
• LTP enhances communication between neurons and strengthens neural pathways
• LTD weakens neural pathways and results in a decreased communication between neurons
• LTP - Sprouting
• LTD - Pruning
• LTP - post-synaptic neurons become more sensitive and easier to activate
• LTD - post-synaptic neurons become less sensitive
