River Jordan- Overextraction of Rivers

• Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan all competing for R. Jordan in desert area
• Mouth flows into Dead Sea
• Water leaves sea via evaporation
• Over exploitation from :

  Overextraction for irrigation for tropical fruits, for export market to Europe.

  Overextraction for domestic water from high standards of living

  Pollution: sewage, salt

  Becoming more concentrated due to over extractions
• Consequences of overusage of River Jordan

  HEP power stations cannot be used due to lack of water

  Only 10% of water reaches dead Sea, getting smaller by 1m every year

  If Dead Sea leaves, turns into soil, flat will wreck the soil

  Evaporation of temperatures cools, without Dead Sea climate would be incredibly warm
• Suggested Dead Sea Canal from Mediterranean Sea to fall into a HEP which generates electricity for desalination and gain freshwater
