    Lyme Regis is a small town in west Dorset, south west England. Lyme Regis is found on the jurassic coastline - which is very popular with tourists.
  • What are the threats to Lyme Regis?
    • The geology of Lyme Regis is mostly limestone which is resistant to erosion, and clay which is not, this can result in landslides
    • Houses, roads and farmland are at risk of being damaged due to landslides and a risk to life
  • How are the threats to Lyme Regis managed?
    There were 5 Phases
  • Name Phase 1 to help protect Lyme Regis
    New sea wall made, as well as a promenade, £1.4 million project to stablise the cliffs.
  • What was Phase 2 to help protect Lyme Regis?
    Exisiting costal defenses are under threat and were deteriorating. Rock armour was to be extended and repaired.
  • What was phase 3?
    Monmouth beach was under threat. The risks outweighed the benefits so the plan was scrapped.
  • What was phase 4?
    The sea wall was repaired and extended to east of lyme regis, the stablising of cliffs saved 480 homes
  • What was phase 5?
    Repairing the walls and the walkway along the promenade
  • How was Lyme Regis a success?
    Beaches became renewed with material which attracted tourists
  • What a drawback of Lyme Regis?
    The scheme costed a lot of money as the coastal defenses kept deteriorating.
