What are the names of the two types of seismic waves?
-P-Waves and S-Waves
What are the differences between P-Waves and S-Waves?
-P-Waves are Longitudinal
-S-Waves are transverse
-S-Waves cannot travel through liquids whereas P-Waves can travel through liquids
What does a P-Wave graph look like?
It showcases that P-Waves can travel through the earths core as they can pass through solids and liquids (Earths core liquid)
What does an S-Wave graph look like?
-They cannot pass through liquids and therefore cannot pass through the earths core
What type of wave can travel through the Earths core?
-P-Waves
What type of wave is faster?
-P-Waves are faster than S-Waves. S-Waves speed increases as density increases but P-Waves are faster
How are seismic waves used to identify the Earths shell contents?
-P-Waves can pass through liquids and S-Waves cannot therefore we can identify that the earths core is liquid as S-Waves cannot travel through it. This also tells us that the outside of the earths core is solid
