• endocrine system is a system of glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream
• hormones is a substance that make us go nuts
• The hormones are basically the chemical messengers that are produced by the endocrine glands and are carried in the bloodstream to the target cells
• endocrine glands are characterized by secreting their hormones into blood
• exocrine glands secrete into ducts and into the lumen of the body
• secretion is the process of releasing substances from the body into the environment
• functions of the 10 glands (growth and development) (metabolism,digestion and breathing)(sexual function)(reproduction)(mood)
• hypothalamus found at the base of the brain, under the thalamus and above the pituatary
• function of hypothalamus is to supress or stimull other hormones like the pituatary
• pineal gland is a small gland in the brain that produces melatonin
• pituitary gland regulates most of biologica processes of the body and metabolism, growth, reproduction, and development
• thyroid gland found in the front part of the neck, helps you regulate the calcium balance in your body
• celcitonin lowers the calcium levels in blood and prevents the formation of blood clots
