Writing Process
A series of steps or stages to follow in
creating a completed piece of writing.
Correct order of the writing stages:
Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing, Publishing
Prewriting
is the planning stage.
Drafting
turns prewriting notes into paragraphs
Introduction
must be strong enough to grab the readers’ attention
Body
presents details that supports the main idea
Conclusion
restates the thesis statement and summarizes the
most important concepts
Revising
checks on how to improve the choice of words, the
style, sentence variety, etc.
Editing
checks the accuracy of facts and correcting errors
in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
Publishing
produces the final copy of a piece of writing and
presenting it to an audience.

thesis statement
is a sentence that sums up the central point of
your paper or essay.
Thesis statement is located near the end of the

Concise
: A quality of a good thesis statement is short and sweet.
Contentious
: A quality of a good thesis statement requires evidence or analysis to back it up
Coherent
: A quality of a good thesis statement must be supported and explained in the rest of your paper.

Claim
is a statement of something you believe is true
Reasons
are ideas to support your claim

outline

Focus and Coherence
keeps to the topic ideas are well connected to each other using appropriate words and phrases
Organization

Development of Ideas
- ideas are clearly defined and connected in an interesting manner

- writer uses unique style in conveying his/her thoughts through
words and phrases
