  • This binding initiates a change in the cells activity
• Recognition protein

  • These proteins have a short charbohydrate tail which acts as a marker enebling cells to identify + interact with one another
  • They are also called cell identity markers
• Phospholipid bilayer

  • Make up most of the cell membrane
  • Head = hydrophilic
  • Tail = hydrophobic
  • Proteins are embedded in this layer
  • CO2 and O2 can move through easily
