AO3 Ideal Mental Health

Cards (5)

  • It sets an unrealistically high standard for mental health. Most people would be considered abnormal
  • It is difficult to measure self-actualisation and environmental mastery
  • It doesn't acknowledge different contexts. E.g. Break-ups / failing exams
  • It is a comprehensive definition, as it covers a broad range of criteria for mental health making it a positive and holistic approach. It can be used as a criteria for self-referral
  • Why could this method by considered ethnocentric?
It is a culturally biased definition. A collectivist culture would aspire towards shared goals, not individual goals
