  • For the right AV valve:
    • If pressure in the right atrium > right ventricle, valve opens
    • Vice versa, valve closes (prevents backward flow)
  • When right ventricle pressure is higher than pulmonary artery pressure, the pulmonary valve opens. This occurs with contraction of the right ventricle.
  • Cardiac output = Heart rate * Stroke volume
  • In systemic circulation: Mean arterial pressure = Cardiac output * Total peripheral pressure
