Language Tecniques

• Metaphor - comparing 2 things, saying one this IS another thing
• Simile - comparing 2 things, using 'like' or 'as'
• Personification - giving human features to non-living things
• Hyperbole - exaggeration
• Alliteration - repetition of a consonant sound at start of words
• Sibilance - repetition of S sound
• Verb - doing or action word
• Adjective - describing a noun
• Onomatopoeia - a word that sounds like the sound is conveying e.g Thud!
• Juxtaposition - two things deliberately contrasted
• Assonance - repetition of a vowel sound
• Repetition - deliberately using a word or phrase more than once
• Pathetic fallacy - giving human feelings to inanimate objects or weather to convey tone and atmosphere
