Stoichiometry

Cards (5)

  • Stoichiometry came from the Greek word stoicheion, “element” and metron, “measure”. It is the area of study that examines the quantities of substances consumed and produced in chemical reactions.
  • Mole
The mole (abbreviated mol,) is the SI measure of quantity of a “chemical entity,” such as atoms, electrons, or protons. It is defined as the amount of a substance that contains as many particles as there are atoms in 12 grams of pure carbon-12.
  • Avogadro's Number

Also known as Avogadro’s constant. It is defined as the number of particles (molecules, atoms, compounds, etc.) per mole of a substance. It is equal to 6.022 x 10²³
  • Formula Units

The empirical formula for an ionic compound.
  • Molar Mass

The mass of a given substance (chemical element or chemical compound) divided by its amount of substance (mol), in g/mol.
