  • There are 2 stages within the Alarm Phase; Shock and Countershock
  • Shock is the first awareness of the stressor, the body goes into shock and the ability to deal with the stressor falls below normal
  • Signs of Shock include fainting, decrease in muscle tone, low blood pressure, temp and blood sugar
  • Countershock occurs when the Sympathetic nervous system activates; releasing adrenaline and cortisol in the bloodstream; the ability to deal with the stressor increases
  • Sign of Countershock include fight, flight or freeze, increase in muscle tension, breathing, heart rate, blood glucose etc.
