Renewable energy

• Recently due to concerns over pollution and the possibility that some sources of fuel might eventually run out or become uneconomic to obtain, there has been much greater support for renewable sources of power, such as wind or solar energy
• Renewable energy sources provide 25% of the electricity we use. Unlike fossil fuels they tend to not produce any waste or significantly add to global warming by producing gases
• Coal = 23% electricity production in the UK
• Oil = <1% electricity production in the UK
• Natural gas = 30% electricity production in the UK
• Nuclear = 22% electricity production in the UK
• Renewable = 25% electricity production in the UK
