• direct transmission - when a disease is transfered directly from one organism to another.

  • droplet infection ( coughing or sneezing )
  • sexual intercourse
  • touching an infected organism
• example of a disease by direct transmission is HIV by sexual intercourse or athletes foot spread via touch

• indirect transmission - when a disease is transmitted from one organism to another via intermediates
• examples of intermediates are air, water, food, vectors
• examples of indirect transmission is malaria ( spread through humans via mosquitos which act as vectors )

  or potato/ tomato blight which is spread when spores are carried between plants - first in air then in water
