  • Qualifications of Examiners
    • Filipino citizen
    • Good moral character
    • Chair must be a Pathologist
    • 2 RMTs as members
    • Practice of lab medicine or MT for at least 10 years prior to appointment
    • Not MT faculty prior to appointment
  • Functions of COMT
    1. Recommend minimum required curriculum
    2. Determine Medical Technology students
    3. Approve Medical Technology schools
    4. Require MT schools to submit annual report
    5. Inspect MT schools in the country
    6. Certify admissions into an undergraduate internship
    7. Formulate and recommend refresher course (3x failed the exam)

  • Board Members can be removed for neglect of duty, malpractice, or immoral conduct, and can only be removed by the President of the Philippines

    Annually held in Manila, Cebu, and Davao during August or September with written notices published at least 30 days prior in newspapers of national circulation
  • Administrative Investigation
    Revocation or suspension done by at least 2 members of the board + 1 legal officer, revocation requires a unanimous vote (3/3), suspension requires a majority vote (⅔) not exceeding 2 years
  • Issuance of Certificate of Registration (COR)
    Successful applicant must be 21 years old, signed by BOMT and PRC chairperson, displayed at workplace
  • Foreign Reciprocity

    No foreigner allowed to practice MT unless reciprocity established, allowing Filipino MT to practice in the subjected country/state
  • Removal of Board Members
    Can only be removed by the President of the Philippines for neglect of duty, malpractice, or immoral conduct
  • Report of Rating
    Board of Medical Technology (BOMT) to report within 120 days to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)
  • Roster of MT
    Prepared annually by the Secretary of the Board including name of RMT, address, citizenship, date of registration, and other important information, open to the public
  • Appeal
    Revocation or suspension subject to appeal by Civil Service Commissioner, decision final 30 days after promulgation unless appealed to the President of the Philippines

    MT schools accredited by DEpEd/CHED, Training lab accredited by Bureau of Research and Laboratories (BRL)
  • Qualifications for Examination
    Good health and good moral character, Graduate of BSMT or Public Health, Graduate of other profession can take the board exam if they perform MT for 5 years prior to June 6, 1969
  • Fees
    Applicant fee is P50.00 for COR issued without prior examination, P10.00 for issuance of a new certificate

  • Rating in the Exam
    To pass, general average must be at least 75%, no grade below 50% in any major subject, not failed in 60% subjects computed according to relative weights
  • Inhibition of Practice of MT
    Registration not required for duly registered physician, foreign MT as visiting or exchange professional, MT in the service of the US armed forces stationed in the Philippines
  • Oath Taking
    Administered by the BOMT or any person authorized by the board
  • Refusal to Issue COR
    Convicted by the court, unsound mind, incurable communicable disease

    Ensure proper qualifications and training for technical staff
  • Scope of Examination
    Includes Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology & Parasitology, Immunology, Serology & Blood Banking, Clinical Microscopy, Histopathologic Techniques, Medical Technology Laws and Ethics
  • Reinstatement, Reissue, or Replacement of Certificate
    Board may reissue any revoked registration certificate
  • Penal Provisions
    Violations include practicing MT without COR or without supervision of a pathologist
