parts of the brain

Cards (11)

  • what 3 parts is the brain comprised of
    hindbrain, midbrain, forebrain
  • what doees the hindbrain do
coordinates sensory and motor messages entering and leaving the spinal cord, responsiable for balance and coordination
  • where is the medula located and what does it do
lowest part of brainstem, in hindbrain, relays info between spinal cord and brain, controls and regulates vital physiological functions such as heartbeat, circulation and respiration
  • what is the part if the image highlighted and what does it control
frontal lobe: controls higher order thinking abilities, e.g decision making, planning and reasoning. language and speech production, volentary movement, personality and emotional regulation. contains primary motor cortex, broxa's area
  • what is the part if the image highlighted and what does it control

Prinary Motor Contex: responsiable for volantary movement, areas of PMC of LHS of brain are responsiable for movement on the RHS of the body
  • what is the part if the image highlighted and what does it control

broca's area: responsiable for speech production and motor movement, found only in the left hemispere, close to base of motor cortex
  • what is the part if the image highlighted and what does it control

parietal lobe: bodily (somatic) sensations, sensory reception and perception. contains primary somatosensory cortex.
  • what is the part if the image highlighted and what does it control

    temporal lobe: auditory proccessing,
left TL = verbal info (left hemispere proccessing language)
right TL= non verbal info (e.g birds, car horn etc)
contains: Primary Auditory Cortex, Wernicke's area
  • what is the part if the image highlighted and what does it control

wernicke's area: part of temporal lobe, usually in left cerebral hemisphere. this area encircles auditory cortex, part of the brain where temporal lobs and parietal lobe meet
  • what is the part if the image highlighted and what does it control

occipital lobe: visual sensory input recived and interpreted, if damaged, visual perception would be impared. contains the primary visual cortex
  • what is the part if the image highlighted and what does it control
cerebellum:structure at lower back of brain under cerebellum, responsiable for coordination or smooth well sequenced movement, maintaining balance, judging distances, regulating postural reflexes
