Excretory System

Cards (12)

  • Urine passes through the ureters into the urinary bladder where it collects until it can be eliminated from the body.
  • Kidneys weigh approximately 140 g (about half a pound) and contain over one million nephrons.
  • Each kidney is about 10 cm long, 5 cm wide, and 3 cm thick.
  • The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located on either side of the vertebral column, just below the rib cage.
  • Kidneys filter blood to remove waste products from the body.
  • Each kidney is about the size of your fist.
  • As primitive urine passes through the tubules, excess sodium, potassium, chloride, glucose, and water are removed while hydrogen ion and ammonia are added to produce final urine of proper concentration and balance.
  • The kidneys are bean-shaped organs located on either side of the spine, just below the ribcage.
  • Tubules in the kidneys refine the primitive urine further through selective reabsorption and secretion.
  • The kidneys filter waste products, such as urea and excess salts, from the blood.
  • Each kidney is connected to the bladder by a tube called the ureter.
  • The glomerulus filters waste products and excess fluid from the blood to form primitive urine.
