deforestation

Cards (2)

    • Deforestation= the clearing of trees (usually large scale)
    • If trees r replaced by replanting = sustainable practise
    • Generally the trees r cleared for the land to be used in a different way (building, grazing for cattle, planting of monocultures eg palm oil plantations) -> NOT sustainable
    • Earth’s surface covered by trees decreases, it causes neg effects on enviro, example of habitat destruction
    • Undesirable effects include:
    1. Extinction of species
    2. Soil erosion
    3. Which leads to leaching
    4. Flooding
    5. Increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere
    6. Disturbance of water cycle
