  • Treaty of Rome under the European Communities Act 1972
    European laws to be incorporated and take precendence over UK law. Initially it meant that the UK government could be called into the European Court of Justice, but after the Factortame case 1990, the UK could suspend UK statutes that were in violation of EU law
  • The Human Rights Act 1998 meant that citizens could pursue cases under the ECHR in UK courts. It provided a double lock of rights as rights were protected by both the ECHR and the HRA
  • The Human Rights Act increased the power of the supreme court as it meant they heard more cases and if necessary declare incompatibility
