darwin's evolution

Cards (5)

  • it talks about how dominant traits will evolve into genetic mutations and that dominant traits will most likely be expressed again due to being dominant.
  • An idea includes modifications (hereditary traits) can make some in species look similar and other stick out like sore thumbs (easily able to be spotted by predators - survival of the fittest)
    • Generations: Change in population (traits passed down through generations)
    • Happens through chemical building blocks of DNA (ATGC passed to offspring)
    • Occasional mistakes (copying mutations = new traits - help determine common ancestor)
    • Believed an extreme complexity (eg. organ) could evolve in small steps with time
  • Darwin's Dangerous Idea: Darwin’s idea was dangerous to certain people as his idea of natural selection not involving God threatened those who believed in Biblical creation (Churches and believers of the Christian Plan of Salvation).  This challenged many religious beliefs of how life on Earth was created and was seen as a disrespect to God.
