  • In eukaryotic cells the cytoplasm is compartmentalised. Areas are separated from the rest by single or double membranes.
  • In eukaryotes there is a nucleus which holds the cells chromosomes. It has a double membrane with pores through it.
  • 80S Ribosomes in eukaryotic cells synthesise proteins (as in prokaryotes).
  • Eukaryotes contain mitochondria which is surrounded by a double membrane, however the inner membrane is folded inwards to increase the surface area.
  • Mitochondria carry out aerobic cell respiration.
