  its transparent allowing light to pass through to the photosynthetic cells below

  a thin layer of oily material on the upper epidermis
• What is the function of the waxy cuticle ?

  reduces the evaporation of water from the surface helps the leaf not dry out
• Where is stomata and what is it for ?

  Stomata are located on the surface of plant leaves and are used for gas exchange (carbon dioxide in, oxygen out) and water regulation.
• What is important about palisade cells ?

  packed with photosynthesis

  contains chlorophyll
• Key feature of spongy mesophyll ?

  full of air spaces allowing carbon dioxide to diffuse from the stomata
• Where can you find a meristem tissue ?

  at the growing tips e.g. shoots and roots
• Meristem tissue contains stem cells that can differentiate into any type of plant cell
