• What is the job of non-specific defence system ?

  to prevent pathogens entering the human body
• What is the first part of the non-specific defence system ?

  the skin performs as a protective layer,consists of dead cells and is difficult for pathogens to penetrate
• What is sebum and what does it do ?

  its an oily substance the skin produces and can kill bacteria
• What happens when the skin is damaged and can let pathogens in ?


  to stop this the skin scabs over
• What is the second part of the non-specific defence system ?

  the nose contains hair and mucus which trap pathogens before they enter the breathing system
• Sometimes pathogens can get through the nose,what happens then ?

  the trachea and bronchi are covered in little hairs ,cilia,which are covered in mucus trapping the pathogen
• What happens when the cilia traps the pathogen ?

  the cilia waft the mucus upwards towards the throat which is swallowed into the stomach
• How does the stomach deal with the pathogen ?

  the stomach contains hydrochloric acid which kills the pathogen
