Use of Technology

• The use of technology can cause all sorts of issues
• Ethical issues are issues about what society would consider right and wrong
• Legal Issues are issues about what the law would actually consider right and wrong
• Cultural issues are issues about how groups of people with particular beliefs , practices or languages may be affected (e.g. ethnic groups, religions, countries)
• Environmental issues are issues about how we impact the natural world
• If a company acted legally, but ignored all questions of ethics, they could lose public trust
• Many companies have a code of conduct to show that they take issues seriously
• A code of conduct is a set of rules that company and its employees will follow
• A company can choose to invent its own code of conduct or choose to follow a standard code of conduct
• Different categories of issues can overlap
