  • Counselling KEY FEAT- Therapeutic relationship
    ·         Counselling aims to create a warm, open, honest relationship so that the client develops trust in the counsellor.
    ·         The relationship is an alliance- counsellor and client need to be on the same wavelength, working together to solve the client’s problems
    ·         The client should feel safe, discussing sensitive matters with the counsellor
  • Counselling KEY FEAT- Emotional Support
    ·         The client is encouraged to talk about their emotions
    ·         The counsellor actively listens to the client but does not explicitly tell them what to do
    ·         The client is encouraged to find their own solutions
    ·         The client can be open, and not worry about upsetting, offending or being ignored
  • Counselling KEY FEAT- Relapse prevention plan

    ·         The client has space to discuss previous relapses and warning signs/ways of coping
    ·         The client and counsellor work out a plan for when the client relapses so they get back on recovery path quickly

    ·         Source of support for someone who doesn’t get any
    ·         Useful for anxiety and stress
    ·         It can be used to help a wide range of clients as it is very flexible
    ·         It can easily be merged with other approaches such as CBT or nicotine substitutes
