  limewater (calcium hydroxide) turns cloudy white if co2 is present

• Can be used to create hydrogen gas:

  Zinc + Sulfuric acid > zinc sulfate + hydrogen

  add copper sulfate or use magnesium instead of zinc to produce hydrogen faster
• can be used to create oxygen:

  • hydrogen peroxide + (magnesium oxide as a catalyst) > water + oxygen
  • decomposition of hydrogen peroxide
• Cna be used to produce carbon dioxide:

  calcium carbonate + hydrochloric acid > calcium chloride + water + carbon dioxide
• Test for chlorine:

  • use damp litmus paper
  • the litmus paper is bleached and turns white
