  • Harvard university’s invention, Harvard Mark I or ASCC (Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator), was a general electromechanical computer that was used during World War II. On 29 March 1944, Harvard Mark I was created by John von Neumann. It was used to calculate if it was better to use atomic bombs. 
  • Computer bug is a problem with the code in the computing program. They can cause their computer to crash or freeze. Most bugs are caused by bad programming by developers. Computer bug is called ‘bug’ because in 1947, when engineers were working on the calculator, they found a moth stack in the machine. So the ‘computer bug’ originated from a real-life insect. 
  • Electronic car uses electricity to move. Their wheels are controlled by a computer. The first electronic car was invented in the United States in 1890 and 1891. Electronic car is the first kind of machine that moves without humans or horses. People invented electric cars because it's safer and cleaner.
  • Silicon Valley is a place where there are many IT companies.  Silicon Valley is in the San Francisco Bay Area in America. There are over 6600 technology companies.  There are many popular companies such as Apple, Alphabet/Google, Netflix and more. 
  • The Internet is the largest world communication network of computers. The Internet is used for online chat, information, and many other things. Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn are computer scientists who invented the internet on January 1, 1983. They invented the internet to communicate with each other from other countries. 
  • Tablet machines are mobile devices. It is touchscreen, rechargeable battery, thin, flat and it is connected to the internet. This is like a smartphone and computer. An American computer scientist, Alan Kay invented the tablet machine in 1972. Alay Kay invented the tablet computer for his personal device. 
  • Transistor is an electronic component that is used as a switch. It can change the volume of sound. William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain are the computer scientists that created the transistor on December 23, 1947.
