Cards (7)

  • MIXTURES - A mixture is two or more substances that are physically blended but are not chemically bonded together.
  • HOMOGENEOUS - A homogeneous mixture is a mixture in which the composition is uniform throughout the mixture. You cannot distinguish the components of a homogeneous mixture.
  • A heterogeneous mixture - is a mixture in which the composition is not uniform throughout the mixture. You can distinguish the components of a heterogeneous mixture.
  • SOLUTIONS - Solutions are homogeneous mixtures where it is composed of two or more substances physically combined together. The particles of a solution are too small to be seen by your eyes.
  • SUSPENSIONS - Suspensions are heterogeneous mixtures where the suspended particles can be seen are large enough to be filtered. For example, muddy water looks uniform in composition at first. After a while, the suspended particles settle at the bottom
  • COLLOIDS - Colloids are heterogeneous mixtures in which microscopically dispersed insoluble particles of one substance are suspended in another substance. For a mixture to be classified as a colloid, its suspended particles must not settle.
  • COARSE MIXTURES - Coarse mixtures are heterogeneous mixtures where the particles can be separated mechanically. Salads and many food preparations are some examples of these.
