  • What is a protocol?
It's a set of agreed rules and signals used by computers for exchanging data
  • How many protocols are there?
    9
  • What does IP stand for?
    internet protocol
  • What does TCP stand for?
    Transfer control protocol
  • What does UDP stand for?
    User data protocol
  • What does SMTP stand for?
    Single mail transfer protocol
  • What does FTP stand for?

    File transfer protocol
  • What does HTTP/s stand for?
Hyper text transfer protocol / secure
  • What does SNMP stand for?
    Single network management protocol
  • What does ICMP stand for?
    internet control message protocol
  • What does POP stand for?
    post office protocol
  • What are the 3 types of email protocol?
    POP, SMTP and IMAP
  • Explain SMTP?
It's a standard email protocol over the internet and between servers. Messages are received with an email client using either POP or IMAP
  • Explain IMAP?
Emails are pushed directly to the device and a copy of the email is kept on both the server and the users (clients) device
  • What is TCP?
its a protocol that allows packets to be sent and received between computer systems.
  • What does TCP do?
It breaks the data into packets and reassembles them back into the original data at the destination.
  • What is internet protocol?
Its a type of protocol responsible of routing and addressing data packets
  • What does IP ensure?
it ensures that the data packets are send across networks to the right destination.
  • Why is UDP faster than TCP?
Because UDP is used where there's low latency such as online gaming, however, UDP doesn't automatically check for errors so packets are more likely to be lost.
  • What are the two network managment protocols?
    ICMP and SNMP
  • what is HTTP and what does it do?
It's a protocol that can be used to transfer web pages over the internet so that users can view them in a web browser.
  • What is HTTPs?
Its more secure than HTTP that works with another protocol called SSL to transfer encrypted data, and you should see a padlock symbol in the URL bar if your connection to that website is secure.
  • What is ICMP?
It collects networks status information such as router erros and it's used for troubleshooting
  • What is SNMP?
It's a protocol that records network status
  • Explain POP in terms of email protocol?
It requires users to access their email by their internet mail account and the email is then deleted from the server when the email has been sent to the client's device.
