  • Acetaminophen Class

    Non-opioid analgesic, Antipyretic
  • Acetaminophen MOA

    Antipyretic
    • Inhibits formation & release of prostaglandins in the CNS
    • Inhibits pyrogens at the hypothalamic thermoregulatory center

    Analgesia
    • The exact MOA is unknown - may be due to its inhibition of CNS prostaglandin synthesis and elevation of pain threshold
  • Acetaminophen Indications

    - Tx of fever
    - Tx of minor non-inflammatory conditions in pts prone to gastric damage
  • Acetaminophen Contraindications

    - Known Sensitivity
    - Active & severe hepatic disease/impairment
    - Unable to control airway or chew/swallow
  • Acetaminophen SE
    - Hepatotoxicity with OD/misuse
    - Gastric irritation - N/V, Abdominal pain
    - Unpleasant taste
  • Acetaminophen Adult Dose

    650mg q4-6 hrs
    Max: 4 dose/24 hrs
  • Acetaminophen Infant/Children <60kg Dose

    15mg/kg q4-6 hrs
    Max: 650mg
  • Aspirin Class

    Platelet aggregation inhibitor
    NSAID
  • Aspirin MOA

    Anti-platelet - prevents thromboxane A2 formation
  • Aspirin Indications

    - Chest pain/discomfort - suggestive ACS
    - Analgesia - tx minor arthritic pain
    - Antipyretic - fever
  • Aspirin Contraindications
    - Known sensitivity to ASA/NSAIDS
    - Significant renal impairment
    - Unable to control airway, chew/swallow
  • Aspirin SE

    - Kidney/Liver issues/failure
    - Gastric upset/bleeding
    - Tinnitus

    200-400mg q6 hrs
    Max 1200mg/day
  • Aspirin Ped 6-12 y/o Dose
    5-10mg/kg PO q6-8 hrs
    Max 600mg
  • Ondansetron HCl Class
    Selective Serotonin Receptor (5-Ht3) antagonist
    Anti-emetic

    Blocks action of serotonin - natural substance that causes N/V

    - Known Sensitivity
    - Known long QT syndrome

    - HA
    - Malaise
    - Cardiac dysrhythmias (bradycardia, SVT, VT)
    - QT interval prolongation

    4mg IV/IO/IM/SL/ODT
    May repeat 1x in 10 min
  • Ondansetron HCl Ped 6m-14y Dose

    0.15 mg/kg IV/ODT
