An important concept that refers to the special relationship between God and the Jewish people.
Mutual agreement where God promises to protect and guide the Jewish people in return for their obedience to his commandments and living a righteous life.
God made the covenant with Abraham, where he promised that his descendants would become a great nation and who would inherit the land of Canaan. Later renewed at Mt. Sinai when God granted Moses with the Torah and 10 commandments.
The covenant creates the terms for this special relationship. It is a 2-way agreement that many Jewish people swear to abide by for the entirety of their lives. It is an unbreakable bond, an everlasting agreement that has been carried out through a multitude of generations and still exists today.
