Infertility

Cards (7)

  • Infertility is the difficulty or inability to concieve naturally.
  • Some couples may be infertile due to insufficient production of reproductive hormones or issues with the reproductive system.
  • Fertility drugs are perscribed which contain FSH & LH to help stimulate egg production. However, it is expensive with a low success rate and there is a multiple births risk.
  • IVF (in vitro fertilisation) is a technique used which involves fertilisation outside of the body.
  • IVF involves collecting and fertilising eggs in a lab and implanting them into the uterus. IVF however has a low success rate and contains a risk of miscarriage.
  • One advantage to fertility treatment is that it provides a chance for parenthood for those unable to concieve naturally.
  • However a disadvantage to fertility treatment is that its low success rate can cause emotional distress and upset for couples if it fails.
