  • All the atoms in giant covalent structures are linked by strong covalent bonds
    • Giant covalent molecules are always solids at room temperature  
    • This is because they have millions of strong covalent bonds that requires a lot of energy to break
    • This means that they have high melting and boiling points
  • In order for giant covalent structures to melt or boil , the strong covalent bonds between their atoms must be broken - this requires a lot of energy
