Banking of highway curves

Cards (3)

  • A banked curve is a turn in which the driving surface is  not horizontal.
  • The curve is banked at an angle 𝜃 with the horizontal so  that there is no tendency to slide up or down the road. This angle is known as the ideal angle of banking
  • the ideal angle of banking in terms of  the velocity of the car and the radius of the turn and is independent of the weight of the car. The velocity in this  case is often termed the rated speed of the curve
