Beck : Postmodern View of Family

Cards (1)

  • Marriage was expected to be for life. Family support was expected throughout our life.
Beck says that nothing is certain in life and we live under high levels of uncertainty and risk. Beck called post-modernity as risk society - we don’t know what the future holds anymore. We can create our own futures Beck suggested that we have a DIY approach to family. This creates negotiated family - where the members define what they want for the family to be and change it according to changes in their lives.
