  • Lymphocytes form part of which immune response?
    Adaptive.
  • The system which allows fluid and white blood cells to travel throughout the body is known as.. Lymphatic system
  • Lines of responses:
    1. skin acting as a barrier and mucous membrane.
    2. inflammatory response includes macrophages (phagocytic white blood cells.)
    3. includes B and T cells (lymphocytes- specific type of white blood cells)
  • Mast cell:
-Part of the 2nd line of defence.
-Assists with allergies and inflammatory responses.
    -release histamine.
  • Histamine causes blood vessels to dilate and increase blood flow to the skin.
  • Macrophage:
-Part of the 2nd line of defence.
    -Engulfs and digests pathogens.
  • Memory cells:
-Part of 3rd line of defence.
    -stores "memory" of pathogens.
-Part of the humoral and cell-mediated response.
  • Their are two types of memory cells memory T-cells and memory B-cells.
  • Memory cells keep a memory of the antigen and can produce antibodies quickly if the antigen is encountered again.
  • Memory B-cells can activate Plasma B-cells to produce antibodies
  • Memory T-cells will activate cytotoxic T-cells which will go after infected cells.
