  • must contain sufficient info for pp to make informed decision whether to take part
  • must include procedural and ethical issues
  • requires pp's agreement so must include space to sign name
• Debrief

  • at end of study must explain everything to pp who is thanked for contribution
  • must be written in verbatim format (spoken word for word)
  • start with thank you, then aim of study, ethical guidelines such as confidentiality, experimental design (if IGD explain other condition)
  • finish with do you have any questions?
• Standardised Instructions

  • ensure pp has exactly same instructions
  • clear and written formal language needed
  • explain procedures
