    cells mutate and body doesn't realise so carry on growing until a tumour is formed (mass of cells), under the skin.

    programmed cell death when our body detects a mutated cell
  • describe the process of cancer developing?
    we have a system that allows cells through the body. If damaged cells manage to pass through then they will do a process called cell division and become out of control creating a tumour
  • What is a benign tumour?
    they have a cell membrane around them, preventing cancer cells from escaping
  • what is a malignant tumour?
    they don't have a membrane around them so can freely get into the bloodstream and appear somewhere else. This can lead to secondary tumours (metastasis)
  • what is a risk factor?
    increases the chance of another thing
