  • Educational Inequalities
Educational inequalities significantly impact Ethnic Minorities in society.
The poverty related educational attainment gap is the difference in education quality between children who are well off and children who live in poverty for many reasons
such as, being hungry in class impacting concentration, being unable to afford resources, trips, etc
due to being more likely to live in poverty, children of an ethnic minority are more likely to experience this gap limiting their academic success
  • Educational Inequalities - EXAMPLE & ANALYSIS
The 2016/17 results showed that Black Caribbean children were least likely to receive a pass in core subjects such as Maths and English
This shows that social inequality has impacted the quality of education received by ethnic minority children as they are limited in academic success
  • Educational Inequalities - REBUTTAL
Children of an ethnic minority are more likely to attend university than their white counterparts
This is because they often have higher expectations due to cultural differences or may have higher aspirations
  • Educational Inequalities - REBUTTAL (EXAMPLE & ANALYSIS)
Black African young people are 29% more likely to attend university than their white peers, as well as Pakistani young people being 19% more likely, and Bangladeshi young people being 27% more likely.
This shows that ethnic minority young people are not limited by their deprived background
  • Educational Inequalities - EVALUATION
Although social inequality limits the educational attainment of young ethnic minority groups, this does not limit their ability for academic success particularly in continuing to further education, reducing the severity of this impact.
