Catholic Funeral

• Order of the rite - Vigil at home, Church door (greets coffin), White cloth on the coffin, Bible is placed on the coffin, Funeral/Requiem Mass, incense and holy water, burial site.
• 1. Vigil at home - Prayers in the home around the coffin.
• 2. Church door - Coffin is greeted and sprinkled with Holy Water as a reminder of baptism.
• 3. White cloth on the coffin - Reminder of baptism.
• 4. Bible is placed on the coffin - Reminder of the word of God. Brings salvation, dead person has lived by the word.
• 5. Funeral/Requiem Mass - Readings, Communion.
• 6. Incense and Holy water - Incense is a sign of holiness. Holy water is a symbol of baptism.
• 7. Burial site - Prayers at the gravesite.
